The collection contains photos of the Horn, Quinlan, Grimes, and Gates families; receipts and documents of Sarah Dougherty and R. E. Quinlan; personal letters to Agnes Quinlan; student work, Mosher-Quinlan children; newspapers. The earliest date is 1884; the latest date is 1965.

Historical Note

Sarah Dougherty was born October 9, 1843, in Donegal County, Ireland. She moved to Leadville in 1872 and then located on a ranch on the lower Eagle River in 1886, raising livestock. She died on September 17, 1917. Her sister, Elizabeth, married J. P. Quinlan, who had daughters (Agnes, Elizabeth and Mary) and a son (Emmett). Agnes married [James] Lawrence Mosher. All three families lived in the Gypsum-McCoy area.

Abstract

A collection of correspondence, photographs, periodicals, and ephemera produced or accumulated by the Dougherty, Quinlan, and Mosher families of Eagle County between 1884 - 1965.

Arrangement Note

The items are arranged by format as received from the Town of Gypsum by the Eagle Public Library. Within each category, the arrangement is by date (if known).

Custodial Note

Box of items relating to Gypsum found in a trunk at a garage sale in Denver. The box was delivered to Pam Schultz by an unidentified person. Pam Schultz, Jenny Ellringer, and Danette Schlegel organized the contents of the box before donating it to the library.

Provenance Statement

The "Dougherty Family Collection" was donated to the Eagle Valley Library District, Local History and Genealogy Department by Pam Schultz, Jenny Ellringer, and Danette Schlegel on November 29, 2006.

Condition Description

Fair.

Note to the Researcher

The bulk of the collection was originally housed in one three-ring binder after processing. It was later rehoused into two legal-sized manuscript boxes to better preserve the materials.

A binder, containing photocopies of the textual materials within the collection, was produced during original processing and placed in the reference section of the Colorado Books area of the Eagle Public Library. That copy can be found under the call number: REF 978.844 D732.
