Historical Note
Melissa (Larsen) Trezise, born March 15, 1913, was a schoolteacher and community leader throughout Eagle County for many years. Born to Mary Hester (Figgins) and Hans Larsen, Melissa was the oldest of two children (brother Duane Larsen). Melissa was raised in Eagle County on the Larsen ranch, between Eagle and Gypsum, Colorado. She graduated from Eagle High school in 1928 and later attended Colorado Teachers’ College in Greeley, Colorado. Melissa has many ties to prominent local organizations: 4-H where she served as a youth leader; directed quilting classes at Colorado Mountain College for many years; Order of the Eastern Star and was named Worthy Matron in 1938; United Methodist Church in Eagle, Colorado, where she was the superintendent for Sunday School classes. Melissa married Robert "Bob" Trezise in 1934 and the two had two children: Mary Joan (Trezise) Gerard and Robert "Bobby" Trezise. Melissa passed away at the age of 94 on November 25, 2007.

Abstract
A collection of materials pertaining to the history of Eagle County schools, collected or created by Melissa (Larsen) Trezise during her time as a teacher or in retirement. Materials date from between 1912-2003. Materials include teacher employment records, school photos, and school yearbooks. There are also manuscripts written by Mrs. Trezise that discuss the history of schools in Eagle County including when they were founded and who worked at them.
Provenance Statement
The "Melissa (Larsen) Trezise Collection, 1912-2003" was donated to the Eagle Valley Library District, Local History and Genealogy Department by Mary Jo Gerard in 2008.

Condition not assessed.
Note to the Researcher
Materials were removed from their original bindings and containers where necessary and placed in archival quality housings to ensure the longevity of the collection. Also, materials containing sensitive personally identifiable information related to Eagle County school employees were removed from the collection and disposed of properly.
